PATAMABA's continued work on the Magna Carta for Workers in the Informal Economy

ree

PATAMABA has been a steadfast advocate for the Magna Carta for Workers in the Informal Economy (MACWIE) national legislation for nearly two decades, actively engaging in dialogue with both Congress and the Senate. While the legislative drafts remain pending, PATAMABA continues to participate in technical working groups with government officials, host awareness-raising campaigns, and provide constructive feedback on draft proposals, emphasizing the importance of gender dynamics, environmental sustainability, and the specific realities of informal work.

At the local level, PATAMABA successfully advocated for the passage of Quezon City Ordinance SP-2512, which recognizes and supports the rights of informal workers. They continue to collaborate closely with the QC local government, implementing the ordinance through training programs for informal workers, as well as participating in conferences and workshops to strengthen worker organization, skills development, and policy engagement. These efforts reflect PATAMABA’s ongoing commitment to ensuring both national and local frameworks recognize, protect, and empower workers in the informal economy.
